Fontan on April 19th

My 12 year old son is having the Fontan on the 19th. Dr. Kaza is doing the surgery. He kind of shocked us last Wed. when he said he hasn't ever done the Fontan on a dextrocardia patient like McKay. Not what parents want to hear. We appreciate prayers and good thoughts! Thanks!

I thought you had to get the fontan as a toddler. Happy to hear it can happen later. I'd think the dextrocardia wouldn't change things that much. We'll keep you in our prayers - looking forward to updates.

Keeping you guys in our prayers. Good Luck for the fontan. From what I have heard and saw, Dr. Kaza seems like a very very good surgeon. I know allot of the people in the group just love him!!!
How does your 12 year old feel about this? I always wonder how they feel, but most are too young to explain it. Kylie's fontan is in our near future (she is only 19 months old) so one day!!

We'll be praying for you guys, and sending good happy thoughts. Dr. AK is our surgeon, and he is amazing! That doesn't make surgery less scary, but your son is in good hands.

I understand your stress. My son has dextrocardia and it is very difficult doing things backwards. Our last heart surgeon told us it was difficult but he was extra careful. I will pray for you, that the surgeon's mind will be clear and guided during this confusing surgery. At least the surgeon was honest with you and up front. Always follow your gut feelings, mother's instinct's are fairly accurate. Talk to him about your fears and see if you feel consoled, if not see what your options are, and you make the final decision. Pray to know if he is the right surgeon for your child and follow your heart. I wish you the best. I remember the sleepless nights before my son's Heart surgeries. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers. My son's surgery has been postponed until May 7th. Dr. Kaza is going out of the country and doesn't want to do the surgery and then leave. We agree! So May 7th is the day!
