Have any of you had Select Health? We're switching to a new insurance next month I need to pick between Select Health (which I've never had) and Regence.
I'd love to just pick the cheapest, but I don't want to end up with rotten health insurance. Do you have any good/bad experiences with either company?
Any tips on what I should look for?
Anyone else switched and wished they'd done things a little differently?
Any good advice would be appreciated. :)

I had SelectHealth for 3 years including during Brennan's birth and BT shunt surgery. They were very good to work with. Because of Brennan's heart defect they assigned us an account rep that we could work with directly. Any issues I had I just called the rep and it got taken care of.
Recently I switched jobs and therefore switched insurance to Regence. So far Regence has been a bit of a pain. They tried to deny all coverage for Brennan saying he had a pre-existing condition because he wasn't on our previous insurance for at least 9 months....but he was only 3 months old! They fixed it but not until I had to make a stink about it. I just really have to watch Regence because they seem to try to get out of paying anything whereas SelectHealth seemed to always pay what they should without me having to call them.
Another thing I like better about SelectHealth is their explanation of benefits letters are soooo much better. Not a big deal but when you get as many as we heart parents do it makes a difference.

We have had Select Health for the past 9 years. They have been wonderful to work with. We also had a nurse case manager assigned to us when Jacob was born. It was wonderful having one person to call to ask about charges and explain coverage instead of just calling the customer service number.
Select Health is a brake off of IHC so they have awesome pre-negotiated discounts from the normal charges. Also with IHC home health.
Explanation of Benefits were easy to read and you can access all your families info from their website.
My husband's company just switched insurance to Cigna. I do not know anything about the other insurance company.
Good Luck!

We used to have Select Health with a previous employer and miss it terribly! We now have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arkansas (Wal-Mart Ins.) and hate the new one.
One of the things I gre to love with Select Health is the Case amnager, she got to know Isaac and all about his issues. If you ever need instant approval the case manager will push it through in a hurry. She helped us have someone who understood our situation and worked with us well to get us what Isaac needed most. She was able to get us approved for a wheelchair that he could use when he gets to exhausted to walk, it's been a lifesaver for us many times. I hope someday we can get Select Health again. If you have any more questions about it, i'll be happy to answer more. Good Luck, Hugs Djinni

We have had select med for 2 years now. It's been a great insurance with only minor issues that are resolved quickly. Like the others said, we got a case manager while we were pregnant and now a new one, the only problem is the new case manager isn't very good  Other than that they have worked out everything for us. OH and they won't pay for dieticain visits unless you baby was a premie. On our plans the 1st year we had a $4000 out of pocket, $500 deductible, then after we hit that it was 80/20 so we ended up paying a lot of $ last year, this year we changed to a high deductible plan. We have to pay $3000 before the insurance pays for anything, including meds, but after we hit that the insurance pays 100% of everything meds included. Ours goes from July to July and we hit our limit around December, so everything is cover 100% We also set up a HSA health savings account, my husbands work put in a certain amount of money per check and we put in like $25, the nice thing is it rolls over from year to year. Sorry changing insurance is frusterating. Good Luck....

We have been very impressed with Select Health... We have a wonderful Care Manager.. They have stuck with us through all of Gator's many proceedures and my endless questions... The benefits are easy to understand and how everything is assigned makes it easy to know each year what to look forward too... We hit our max out of pocket with Gator each year within a couple of days so everything is taken care of after that. I do worry some times because we have a lifetime cap of 2.5 million. But I think we are far from it... Even after three OHS and many many hospital stays and two minor surgeries and home health and and and... You know... I especially like how the online system works because I can easily check into things that are processing or have been paid... Good luck... Sorry I can't help you with Reagence... Oh the other thing I like... They have great Doctors on their plan.......
