I read Steve's post this morning and then moved over to the journal article and my heart about jumped out of my body! If the in utero procedures they are doing in Boston are continuing to be successful, this is HUGE in the world of HLHS CHD research. This just made my day.

To read for yourself:
http://tricuspid.wordpress.com/2009/10/01/the-dirty-little-secret-of-hlhs/

and then the actual article:
http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/CIRCULATIONAHA.109.848994v1

I have a friend who is 35 weeks pregnant and at 30 weeks, she was flown to Boston for an emergency procedure for their HLHS baby and they actually performed this intervention as well. I am so curious to see the outcome as they have been told it is possible that their little baby will be able to skip the major heart surgeries and have a minor procedure done at birth to continue to help the left ventricle develop. Wow. I love technology.
