My daughter has HLHS (just had her glenn) and we are on independent insurance right now. It has been really good coverage and they can't kick us off or raise our premiums more than normal which has been nice. My husband may be looking for another job and we were wondering if anyone knows about changing insurance and going through a company insurance if they have to accept her? My other question is we have thought of moving back to Idaho where we are from but we are not sure if we can get independent insurance for her and/or our family? I was thinking maybe every state offered insurance and maybe we could get her covered by that. I don't know enough to even know where to start looking for information. If anyone knows anything please let me know or if you have some place I could start looking for answers that would be very helpful.

You sound just like us! My son, Grant, has HLHS and just had his Glenn a few weeks ago. We just moved to Idaho from UT where we had IHC private insurance and we are in the process of switching to my husband's companies insurance. We have had NO problems switching to a group plan. Group plans (like those through employment) cannot discriminate based on pre existing conditions as long as your daughter is added within 30 days. Some plans might have waiting periods for certain procedures, so look into that. My husband works for the government, so we have had very few problems with waiting periods. We kept our IHC plan in place and still use our UT pediatrician and bill them because we wanted consistency until after he was stabilized. I am sure you can get a private plan in Idaho with some company (just start researching insurance agencies in the city you would move to), but they can exclude based on pre existing conditions. Email me if you want to talk. :)
