Anyone here have a kiddo who had a stroke during/after surgery? A friend of ours had a baby boy who was born with ToF, and he just had his surgery. His first surgery was not 'enough' and had to go right back in again for a second surgery two days later (the surgeon was conservative in hopes of preserving his valve and preventing another surgery later).

they'd just gotten him extubated when they noticed signs of stroke, and imaging confirmed it (small one at the back of his brain).

His carepage is SeraphsHeart. If you have been through this experience or any part of it and have advice for the family, that would be awesome. They are just so broken and sad right now, and need all the encouragement they can get.

update from the mom: MRI results showed NO brain damage!! The bleed should resolve on its own. They want to do an eye exam, hearing test, and have a speech therapist come by just to cover our bases. There shouldn't be any permanent damage. We can finally breathe again...

That is so good to hear. It really can be scary when these little ones do unexpected things.

My son will be 2 next month and suffered 2 strokes from a blood clot in his heart. He was just shy of 2 months old when it happened. He is developmentally delayed (just had consults with PT, OT and Speech). He is delayed to an 10-12 month old with speech and 15-16 month old OT and PT. He does not walk, eat by mouth (that is due to being intubated and a paralyzed vocal cord) or talk..........BUT HE IS ALIVE and doing well! These kids are so resilliant and make it through so much. I would not worry and just give it time. That is great news that there is no visable damage! Kyler's was very visable. I pray their baby makes a full recovery!
